Verdi - Requiem

Soprano - Sarah Jane Brandon

Mezzo - Zoe Todd

Tenor - Paul Smy

Bass - Morgan Pearse

Verdi's Requiem is one of the most dramatic and colourful settings of the Mass for the Dead; particularly operatic is the 'Dies irae' sequence, with its offstage trumpets representing the trumpets of the Last Judgement. David Rosen calls Verdi's Requiem 'probably the most frequently performed major choral work composed since the compilation of Mozart's Requiem'. It's not hard to see why! The work, which lasts about 90 minutes, takes us through the whole gamut of emotion, and the opening of the Dies irae is one of the most thrilling moments in classical music.
